A Great Resource for Closet Information

I was wandering around the internet over the weekend and happened upon ClosetsDaily website.  I was on that website for a while and came away with so much information!

ClosetsDaily has everything from news about closets, manufacturing and hardware to blogs about business, sales, manufacturing and remodeling!

One blog I especially appreciated was Richie DeMarco’s information about using Twitter.  Kansas City Closet Company has been on Twitter since last year sometime and we love getting on our Twitterfeed and getting the latest information about anything.  Richie DeMarco (who is better known in the Twitterverse as @MayorofHardware) had great information for anyone whether you are already on Twitter or just signing up.

Kansas City Closet Company  (@KCClosetCo) prides itself on staying on trend both with our closets and our techno-savvy!  So, follow us on Twitter for all the latest information about closets!

Kansas City Closet Company likes to help you make the most of your space!  Whether you are in Leawood, Lenexa, Brookside or BlueSprings, give us a call and we can help make spring cleaning and organizing more fun!

Threadflip is a Great Tool for Refreshing Your Closet…and SHOPPING!

“Threadflip provides a smart and streamlined way for consumers to discover, sell and purchase online,” said Manik Singh, CEO, Threadflip. “Too many closets are packed with barely or never-worn items, some with tags still on. With Threadflip’s seamless end-to-end experience, easy shipping and White Glove Service, we’ve removed all barriers to buying and selling online, making it simple to hit the refresh button on your wardrobe.”

The quote above is from the Marketwatch article that announced the launch of Threadflip about a month ago.  SInce then they have been helping people turn their packed closets into personal boutiques.  What a great idea!

Those of us here at Kansas City Closet Company like it when people are thinking about their closets!  We get the advice all the time that we need to “change our clothes out each season” and “be ruthless in what we keep” and this new service seems to help out with both of these tasks!

5 Reasons Why KCCloset is the Best Choice for Local Custom Closets

Wow!  Kansas City Closet Company has been buzzing lately!  We are fortunate to have lots of business BUT never more than we can handle or take on, so KEEP IT COMING!

We were talking the other day about how lucky we are to be a local small business.  There were so many positive aspects mentioned we decided to share just the Top 5!

Reason #1:  KCCloset Company is a member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).  As a NARI member, our clients are guaranteed that we have “extensive knowledge of the closet industry and that we have a commitment to professional conduct”.  NARI makes membership in the association a rigorous process so that only the best and brightest companies can be NARI members.

Reason #2:  Our designers are the BEST in the industry.  We are a young company in Kansas City but our owner and designers have over 25 years of professional experience in the custom closet industry.  We have seen good times and not so great times but trust that when your talent is the best, your business will always be great!

Reason #3:  Kansas City Closet Company values our clients and our client referrals.  The thing about closet consultations is that they are very personal.  We love that our clients call us and are willing to open their closets to us.  We value the bond that this brings out and are even more commited to designing a new custom closet that works best for you and your family.

Reason #4:  We design and manufacture everything locally.  This process means local jobs and money staying local.  Kansas City Closet Company is hands down your choice for a local, dedicated and affordable custom closet company

Reason #5:  No matter where you are, Kansas City Closet Company can get to you!  We have installed closets in Sedalia, Liberty, Kansas City, Kansas, Brookside, Mission, Leawood, Shawnee, Lenexa, Prairie Village…Overland Park…I’m sure I’m leaving others out but if I listed EVERY city and county, you would get bored.  We do what it takes to get the job done.  That’s our promise to you.

Thank you to our past clients and future clients.  We always look forward to working with you and thank you for your business.

Practice Makes Perfect

I was browsing over a few websites this weekend and came upon the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) website and looked around a little bit.  It is full of information about who is in the association and how to get into the organization.

The main idea I took away was the fact that there is an entire industry devoted to helping others organize their lives.  This led me to think about the fact that if so many need so much help, a seemingly little process like ‘organizing’ takes on a who new meaning.  Many people don’t know how to organize or don’t want to take the time to organize.

Organization takes, like any other task, a lot of practice.  It’s like in the book,The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell, you need to devote a certain amount of time to getting good at any particular activity.  It’s something that takes practice.

At Kansas City Closet Company, we have practiced and practiced ‘getting good’ at organization.  When our talented designers go to potential clients homes for an in-home design consultation, they see every manner of disorganization and try to help out with whatever they can.  That’s our business, whether we are installing a great new garage organizational system, a reach-in or walk-in closet or the perfect pantry for your kitchen.  That’s why we call it, making the most of your space.  When we leave, we have left you with the outline of organizational living in any specific room in your home.

Call us today and see!  We would love to help you make the most of your space!

Top 5 Tips for Organizing your Closet

Whether you have a custom closet from Kansas City Closet Company or not, we have a few tips for organizing your closet that will make your everyday interaction simplier and stress free.

1.  Group your clothing by style and then by color.  At a certain point in life, our work and hobbies will dictate what we purchase.  For most, we end up buying several of fewer ‘styles’ of clothing (for example, several dress shirts, tennis skirts or cardigan sweaters).   Group these different styles of clothing together and then within each style group by colors.  Just this step eases the morning routine and allows us more stress-free time to pick our daily outfit.

2.  If you change out clothing items seasonally, make sure to wash or send dry cleaned items out before storing them away.  There is nothing more dissapointing the unpacking these items in a year with stains on them.  Ease the stress by being organized about this.  It’s all part of the process.

3.  Make use of deep drawers for sweaters.  Never hang knitwear.  Sweaters can stretch out easily so make sure to fold them in deep drawers instead of hanging them in your closet.  Your cardigans will thank you in their own way!

4.  Use individual baskets, boxes or storage tubs for unruly items.  Socks, underclothes, slick workout wear and scarves are a few items that come to mind that make baskets necessary for long term closet ease.  These items can be folded and easy to get to but give them their own space so they don’t hide other items.

5.  Use Tie and Belt Racks for ties and belts.  Lastly, these two little closet accessories are great for making your closet less stressful.  Just having these two hard to manage items up and out of the way makes getting dressed easier.  You will be on your way before you know it.

Like I said, all of these easy fixes can be done with or without Kansas City Closet Company.  We love our custom closets and always love helping our clients make the most of their space.  So in a little way, even if you aren’t a client, these little tips are a gift from us to you. Hopefully they will inspire you to make the most of your space!

Belt and Tie Racks for your Custom Closet

At Kansas City Closet Company, we do a lot of in-home closet consultations.  We promise that when our talented designers get to your home, there is no judgement, we have literally seen it all!

Most often, our clients have the basics down and are partially organized but need our help and tips to get them on the right track.  Often it’s the ‘specialty items’ in our closets that cause the most problems.  These specialty items include shoes, bags, scarves, ties and belts.

Kansas City Closet Company has many accessories for each of these ‘specialty items’.  Our favorites and best sellers are our high quality belt and tie racks.  We rarely install a custom closet without these accessories because we know that if they are included, the chance of the closet remaining neat and tidy is high!

National Organize Your Files Week!

On my trusty  calendar of “Organizing Holidays” I noticed that the week before Tax Day is “National Organize Your Files Week”.

This seemed odd to me for a couple of reasons.  First, It seems odd that Organize Your Files week wouldn’t be a little bit earlier in the year, like when you are actually looking for all of your tax documentation for the prior year.  A week before Tax Day seems like a little too little a little too late.

If your    aren’t already organized by this point you need more help than just this week can provide.

The second reason it struck me as odd is that during the week before you inevitably pay the government lots of money, who wants to be inside doing something like organizing your files.  I would prefer to be elsewhere, forgetting that I even had a job and hoping, for the moment, that next year, I could just not make any money so I wouldn’t owe any taxes.

That’s what I think of this “organizing holiday”.  I think you should at least be allowed to ‘organize something besides your files’ this week.  Like you could organize your DVR cue, your spices or your coffeecups.  Something less exhausting than your files.

Say NO to Stressful Messy Closets!

At Kansas City Closet Company we love our custom closets!  We think they are beautifully constructed using quality materials by the best installation experts in the business.  We also think that the fact that our custom closets are manufactured locally means we can make the most of your space for a little bit less than our competitors.

But do you want to know why we really love our custom closets?

We really love our custom closets because they relieve so much stress in the morning.  It’s nice to have your clothing in great order so that you can see everything.  It makes dressing less of a chore and a lot more peaceful.

Belt and Tie Racks

One of the most fun parts of installing a custom closet is picking out your accessories.  By themselves, they may not seem like a ‘big deal’ but once put together with a fantastic organizational system where there is a place for everything they are a HUGE bonus!

Belts and ties are two pieces of clothing that need their own place.  These accessories can get messy easily.  Keep them neat and tidy with installed belt and tie racks.

At Kansas City Closet Co the quality of our closets never changes, they are always top notch.  What does change is our line of accessories, we upgrade and add new seasonally, so our clients ALWAYS get the latest and best!
